Krav Maga Techniques

Krav Maga Techniques Krav Maga Techniques for Self Defense

Krav Maga is an unarmed close contact fighting system. Translated into English Krav Maga means contact/close combat. It is not a martial art and it is not a sport. It has become a popular self defense system world-wide, not only for military &, law enforcement, but for civilians too.

Krav Maga is an extremely practical fighting system, designed for real life hand to hand combat and self defense. The basic principle is to take out –, or neutralize –, the attacker as quickly and as simply as possible, while minimizing the injury or risk of injury to ones-self.

Krav Maga differs from other fighting systems sometimes used for self defense –, such as Karate –, in that it has no real rules, no kata, no competitions, no sporting applications. It was developed for and is used by the Israeli military.

The sole aim is to stop the attacker with as much force as necessary. The assumption is always that the attacker is a potential threat to ones life and is to be neutralized as quickly as possible, so Krav Maga techniques are brutally direct and effective. It is truly reality based.

There are no off limit techniques or targets, attacks to the eyes and groin are taught and strikes can be made with hands, feet, knees, elbows, forearms –, even headbutts are incorporated into Krav Maga. Additionally, improvised use of available objects when necessary is also taught.

Ultimate Krav Maga

John Whitman, Eyal Yanilov &, Amnon Darsa

This is a fairly new Krav Maga instructional DVD set and it covers everything from basic defenses to disarming attackers. The instructors are of a very high level, and it has to be said that the production values are considerably better than we have seen in other similar programs.

Award-winning and highly recommended.

Of course one needs to keep in mind the legal implications that can arise from defending yourself, and instructors will show you how to adapt and moderate Krav Maga techniques so as to fit the circumstances you may find yourself in, while at the same time not compromising your self defence.

The basic concepts of Krav Maga are:

1) Not to get hurt

2) To take out –, or to “neutralize” your attacker by inflicting as much damage as necessary, as quickly as possible

3) To go from defending to attacking quickly

4) To be aware of your environment and situation at all times

5) To use when necessary any available objects in your defense and attack

6) To remove yourself from risk of further danger at the earliest opportunity.
