Pubic hair removal creams sound like a great idea because it's something that you can do on your own and it doesn't require shaving. But there are some things to know considering how this product works to remove the hair and the delicate nature of some of the skin in your bikini zone.
How it WorksHair removal creams. also known as depilatories work by breaking down the hair with strong chemicals so that it can be wiped off. If you have ever used a cream or spray version, you probably have never forgotten the smell. Some companies try to mask it with fragrance, and some are worse than others, but there's no hiding it.
Why You Shouldn't Go for a Totally Bare BikiniBecause of the chemical composition, I haven't seen a manufacturer that says you can use their product on the genitals. This area is very delicate and there's a large chance you could get a chemical burn, or later have peeling and scabby skin.
Many people with normal skin report these bad reactions to depilatories even when used as directed-- not leaving it or too long and removing hair only where permitted. Most companies' directions will say you can remove hair on the bikini line though. This basically means that the hair outside your underwear is fair game.
With it being a product that you can use at home, I'm not going to say people follow directions completely and only use it as directed. There are those that will try remove all, or almost all of their pubic hair. But you can really hurt yourself.
Tips and PrecautionsTrim down hair first. You'll save money because you won't need as much product. Also, when you do test a patch to see if the hair is coming off, it will be easier to determine if the entire hair up to the skin is being removed, rather than part of it just being broken off.
Use old underwear. To get even and straight lines, just put the product up to the panty line.
Be careful. Stay away if you have razor burn, pimples or are using strong exfoliating products (like ingrown hair fighters ) on your bikini line. Of course follow all directions and precautions provided by the manufacturer.

Depilatories only remove hair even with skin, possibly a little below, so it has fairly short-lived results. It doesn't remove hair from the root, so you might still see a shadow if you have very dark and/or coarse hair. Here some alternative methods to try:
Shaving. We know this doesn't keep you hair-free long either. But when done correctly, it's safe and can remove all of your bikini hair (if desired) at home easily and inexpensively (get tips for a close bump-free shave ).
Waxing. While you can do a regular bikini wax at home (get directions ), it's best if you let the pros do the work (see bikini waxing styles ). The money is worth the price because they're quick, all hair can be removed and it can last for weeks because it's taken from the root.
Sugaring. For those of you who have sensitive skin. think waxing is way too painful or don't like your hair to grow out too much- this might be for you.
