Assemble the drain-waste-overflow pipe assembly.
Fit the rubber gasket onto the pipe&rsquo,s top opening (the waste overflow), and insert this section into the upper hole in the back of the tub.
Align the bottom portion of the pipe (the drain tailpiece) with the tub drain hole.
Step 2: Install the Drain FlangePlace a thick bead of plumber's putty around the bottom of the drain flange.
Position the drain flange in the bottom hole of the tub and screw it into the drain tailpiece opening.
Step 3: Install the Trip Lever AssemblyAssemble the trip lever and pop-up drain stopper components according to the manufacturer's instructions, but do not attach the stopper. Leave all connections loose enough so that you can easily reposition the assembly during installation.
The assembly has an adjusting nut on the upper rod and a second adjustment bar on the lower linkage. Adjust as needed so that the lever and lower arm operate freely, and the connection for the pop-up stopper is accessible in the drain opening.
Install the trip lever assembly by feeding it through the upper (overflow) hole in the back of the tub.
Fasten the trip lever assembly to the tub overflow cover plate with the screws provided. Fasten it securely but do not overtighten.
Attach the pop-up stopper to the linkage at the bottom of the trip lever assembly.
