What Is Drylock?

Manufacturer

UGL is headquartered in Scranton, Pennsylvania, with facilities in Jacksonville, Illinois, Dayton, Nevada and Jackson, Mississippi. Founded in 1932, UGL manufactures over 80 specialized paints, sealants and waterproofing materials. The Drylock series, first introduced in 1953, is specifically intended for sealing and waterproofing porous masonry composites, such as concrete, brick and stucco. Drylock products are manufactured in the U.S. and distributed worldwide.

Specifications

Drylock comes in two ready-to-use forms: oil based and water based. The water-based latex formula was added in 2005 to give consumers an environmentally friendly low volatile organic compound (VOC) alternative to the traditional oil-based formula.

The oil-based formula contains synthetic rubber and Portland cement to form a breathable film that prevents water seepage but does not trap moisture in the masonry structure. The newer water-based formulas contain sophisticated polymers to create the water barrier. UGL's second generation water-based Drylock is also formulated to retard mold and mildew growth.

Drylock also comes in a powdered form. The advantages to this is that the user can mix as much or as little as needed and can vary the mix to meet the needs of the job.

Applications

Drylock is intended for use on all porous composites, such as poured concrete walls and floors, block walls, brick structures, concrete swimming pools and foundations. The structures can be above or below grade, interior or exterior, and the Drylock barrier can be painted after it is cured. Drylock premixed formulas are tintable. Drylock also offers a designer formula with a granite-like finish that is recommended for damaged surfaces.
