Lowes heaters

Lowes 485310 Duraflame 9HM9000-C240 Infrared Quartz Heater

Lowes 485310 Duraflame Infrared Quartz Portable Electric Whole-Room Heater with Thermostat and Remote.  The Lowes model number is  9HM9000-C240.  This heater is made exclusively for Lowes by Duraflame, though it is very similar to models at Home Depot, Walmart and Menards. It also should be alternative to consider for the Eden Pure infrared heaters out there.  This infrared quartz heater is perfect for adding warmth to any living space. The infrared heat is absorbed by the heat exchanger and then released into the room which allows the heat to distribute evenly and quickly without drying out your skin or environment. This unit can heat up to 1000 square ft. and the infrared heating elements have a lifetime of over 20,000 hours. This heater is great for zone heating and can help reduce high energy bills.

It’,s a great little heater that works exactly as stated. If you’,re trying to heat an entire house or  have a big drafty room to heat, then it’,s not right for you. Duraflame has a nice design, heats a room well,  and does a better job than most $90-$189 ceramic heaters with the same BTU output.

Infrared quartz heating elements provide plenty of heat to warm up to 1000 sq. ft. and the unit comes fully-assembled so it’,s ready to heat out of the box. Concealed casters are already installed allowing you to take the heat with you wherever you go. The remote control allows you to control settings from your chair or sofa. I was really impressed with the heat output. It uses infrared bulbs to heat with and those bulbs have an average lifespan of 50,000 hours.  When it hits 40 degrees at night here it has no trouble keeping the temperature up in the 20 x 22, 450 square foot room I have it in. That’,s with it set at 72 degrees and my main furnace thermostat is now turned down to 66. I did have an oil radiator heater before this Duraflame heater, but this unit tops all other heaters I have owned. Wish I had tried this one first. I also had a small ceramic heater and it’,s nothing compared to this unit. Duraflame puts off a nice warm heat and  warms throughout the area.

What Are Infrared Heaters?

Infrared heaters create a heat that is very similar to the sun. Infrared light isn’,t visible because it’,s beyond the spectrum we see. That invisible light gets absorbed by our skin, clothes and other objects, which is how things around an infrared heater warm up. Infrared space heaters emit rays that are absorbed by other items, which gently increases the temperature of the heaters’, surroundings. They work differently than the other types of heaters you may be considering for your home or office.  There are two basic types of electric heaters: convection and radiant. Convection heaters provide warmth by blowing or pulling air over a heated surface. Convection heaters warm the air. and as it moves through the room, the room gets warm. These heaters are designed to heat an entire room. Radiant heaters direct heat at an object. Radiant heaters are very good at warming one spot and they can run on lower wattage and still keep you warm.

Buy this to supplement your main furnace. Older furnaces can get expensive to use. So far this season I have only used this heater and it keeps my home warm. Have turned down the furnace to 66 and it has been down in the low 30’,s  at night all ready. Waiting to see how it effects the electric bill.  So far I love this heater.  The Lowes Duraflame Infrared Quartz Heater is well worth the cost.

Infrared heaters do provide direct cost-efficient heating, but that doesn’,t mean you should turn off the central heating. Infrared heaters generally aren’,t meant to heat your entire home.  When you shop for any electric space heater, look for a label from a recognized testing laboratory such as UL (Underwriters Laboratory), ETL (Intertek), or CSA (Canadian Standards Association) verifying that the heater’,s construction and performance meet voluntary safety standards.

Tip:   Heater manufacturers want you to believe that using any electric or infrared heater will lower your heating bill. Not necessarily. Lowering your home’,s thermostat and using your main heating system less, will cut your utility bill. Every degree you lower the thermostat can save you about 2 percent on your heating bill. But keep in mind that based on current national average prices and adjusting for the cost to heat with electricity alone, it is about twice as expensive than heating with gas, the most common heating fuel in this country.  Use electric heaters to supplement your main heating source .

A natural gas furnace typically costs about $.17 to $.23 per hour. Thats about $4 a day or $120 a month. Electric heaters and electric fireplaces usually cost about $.09 per hour. That’s about $2 a day or $60 a month.  Keep in mind that you are not comparing whole house heating systems here: you are comparing a furnace with an electric heater.  A furnace will generate about 80,000 BTU’,s of heat to warm your entire house.  An electric heater only 5,000 BTU’,s.  You would need 16 electric heaters to generate as much heat as one furnace.
