Vilebrequin was born in St Tropez in 1971, inspired by the glamour and trè,s chic lifestyle of the French Riviera, with its movie stars, luxury yachts and ultra-cool nightspots. The design of these bright and bold swimming shorts was influenced by surf-wear, and the original shorts were manufactured in spinnaker canvas, a quick-drying fabric used in sailing.
