Unlike Halloween where trick-or-treaters go door to door to collect goodies, children celebrating Purim will go from house to house delivering goodies. The act of sending out food and drink to your friends and neighbors is called "shalach manos." In addition to this happy Purim custom, there are usually also carnival type games and humorous plays. Above all, the Purim celebration always includes children in Purim costumes having a great time and adults having the opportunity to indulge in a few cocktails. The main commandments of Purim are to read from the Book of Ester and to eat, drink and be merry. According to the Talmud, a person is required to drink until he cannot tell the difference between "cursed be Haman" and "blessed be Mordecai," though opinions differ as to exactly how drunk that is.
Depending on how orthodox the community is in which you live usually determines the types of costumes worn. Some communities will allow secular costumes such as princesses and superheroes while more strict orthodox communities prefer that Purim costumes have more religious significance. The costume world has come up with a happy medium by creating Jewish superheroes like Menorah Man and The Magen David Purim costume. Other religiously significant Purim costumes include the Torah Boy costume and the Deluxe Shabbas Queen costume.
