Every luthier has a story, and in Ovation's case it's an especially interesting one. That's because the company was actually founded by an aeronautical engineer. Charles Kaman had a passion for guitars and he decided to turn it into his career, using the knowledge he'd built up making specialty composites for helicopters and applying it to musical instruments. The result was Ovation's one-of-a-kind rounded composite back, which gives these guitars an absolutely unique look, feel and sound.
A similar tone hole layout is used in Ovation's Limited Edition Koa Elite guitar, but there's a lot more to set this instrument apart than just that. It's made with an exotic koa top that really stands out from the usual spruce and, together with the deep bowl Ovation back, delivers really powerful sound with beautiful low-end tone. Of course, there are still plenty of guitars in Ovation's catalog if you would rather go with a traditional tone hole. The Al DiMeola signature model is a great example, built to support Al's speedy guitar work and loaded with a preamp that Al himself helped to design.
There's no other guitar quite like an Ovation. With their specialty composite backs, these instruments deliver outstanding bass tone and steady, smooth resonance. Combine that with the unbeatable versatility of an acoustic-electric design, and you've got a guitar that's in a class all its own.
