A good choice for for mobile credit card processing is Intuit's versatile and merchant-friendly GoPayment service. With favorable pricing, simple set up and rich functionality, Intuit GoPayment lets you take your business on the road without breaking the bank.

Intuit offers two pricing plans: a pay-as-you-go option and a flat monthly rate. The one you choose will largely depend on how many transactions you process per month. If you process a high volume of transactions each month, you'll save more on each transaction by paying the low monthly fee. This plan offers average discount rates of 1.75% for swiped cards and 2.75% for key-entered transactions. The pay-as-you-go plan is ideal for merchants who process a low or varied number of transactions per month. The discount rates are higher, at 2.75% (swiped) and 3.75% (key entered), but there is no monthly fee.

In addition to these competitive rates, the service does not charge a set-up fee and provides a card reader free of charge. Perhaps most notable is that GoPayment does not charge a transaction fee on most transactions. Most mobile credit card processing services charge a per-transaction fee that is anywhere from $0.10 to $0.30. However, there are a few exceptions. GoPayment charges a per-transaction fee of $0.15 if a customer uses American Express, Discover or another ",non-qualifying transaction", credit card to pay.

Intuit GoPayment is easy to set up, implement and use. We are highly impressed with the service's effortless registration and set-up process. It took us fewer than five minutes to set up an account, download the app and begin using the service.

The mobile credit card processing app itself is very straightforward. You simply swipe the card using your card reader, or for keyed-in transactions, input the credit card number, expiration date, security code and billing zip. Confirmation takes a few seconds, and then you can send or print a receipt. The app also includes a streamlined ordering system. You can enter specific information on each of the products or services you sell to use for future orders. When you are ready to create an order, all you have to do is select the items you're selling, choose the appropriate quantity and process the transaction. This automated ordering system is useful because you don't have to type in redundant information for similar transactions.

A compelling benefit of using your existing phone as a credit card terminal is that you can utilize the cellular plan you already have. The equipment supplied by GoPayment is compatible with Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, as well as Android devices. While the service does not currently support BlackBerry, you can access your account and process transactions from any mobile web browser.

Intuit GoPayment offers a number of transaction features designed for on-the-go merchants. Convenient in-app management allows you to manage your account and view your transaction history directly on your mobile device. The service can also track the location of each transaction and automatically calculate sales tax based on your location using the built-in GPS tracking on your device. We especially like that GoPayment automatically syncs with QuickBooks. This can simplify accounting for small merchants and makes this mobile credit card terminal ideal if you're already an Intuit user.

GoPayment allows up to 50 users to process mobile payments on their mobile phones or tablets under a single account. The terminal even supports simultaneous users and transactions. This functionality is especially important if you have multiple mobile or traveling employees.

Mobile credit card processing with Intuit GoPayment is secure for merchants and customers because the actual credit card information is never stored on the phone. Rather, it is transferred with 128-bit SSL (secure socket layer) encryption. The app itself is password protected to prevent fraud if your phone is lost or stolen.
