Ringworm is a fungal infection involving the skin. Different types of fungi affect various parts of the body, including the scalp, groin, foot and body. Jock itch, also referred to as tinea cruris, is a ringworm infection in the groin. Ringworm thrives in warm, moist environments and spreads easily between people. Treatment for the condition includes using topical antifungal infections. Although the name jock itch congers up images of a male condition, women, especially overweight women, are also susceptible to contracting the fungal infection.

Circular Rash Itching And Pain

Itching occurs in the area of affected areas, such as the skin folds of the groin. The skin may also experience a burning sensation. The infection may spread to skin the inner thighs, the labia and the buttocks. In addition to the intense itching and burning, the condition may cause pain, according to the Merck Manual of Medical Information. Treating the infection with antifungal medications helps treat the irritated skin and eases the pain. During hot months, the infection may recur, causing a recurrence of the itching, burning and pain.
