The original Simmons Beautyrest Mattress was launched in 1925. Today they have a high-end luxury line of Beautyrest mattresses know as the Simmons Beautyrest Black Mattress collection. There are four different models in the collection: Olivia Plush, Perla Pillow Top, Alyssa Firm, and the Alisanne Plush Pillow Top. [REF Simmons Mattress Reviews 2010]
These four models share a number of features: true foam encasement, memory foam, yarn blended with Cashmere, and a few specialized Simmons technologies such as the Transflexion Comfort Technology and the Variform Advanced Pocketed Coil spring system. Transflexion Comfort Technology is described by Simmons as a technology “that releases any false firmness or loft in the Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress” (Simmons do not describe this patent pending technology in any detail). The Variform Advanced Pocketed Coil spring system is said to increase mattress strength and comformability via a system of pocketed springs interspersed with rows of both firmer or softer pocketed coil springs.
The four different models are similar in many ways. They all use the Variform advanced pocketed coil springs to provide support and have high density foam along the edges for additional support and durability. They also all have metal corner guards, no-flip design and a 10 year (non-prorated) warranty. Additionally they all use Modal yarn blended, breathable Cashmere.
There are differences in the models however and they tend to be related to a category referred to as “Comfort” by Simmons. The differences are as follows:
- Olivia Plush: plush, memory foam
- Perla Pillow Top: pillow top, memory foam
- Alyssa Firm: firm, advanced memory foam
- Alisanne Plush Pillow Top: plush pillow top, advanced memory foam, natural latex foam
