APPLICATIONS

440C is used for bearings, nozzles, wear parts of pumps, mold inserts, knives, surgical tools, etc. 440C is used for severe service such as valves, needle valves, balls and seats for check valves and ball bearings. 440C resists scaling up to 1200&,deg, F in continuous service and resists corrosion from fresh water steam, crude oil, gasoline, and resists staining from fruit and food acids. Maximum resistance is obtained by hardening and polishing.

MACHINEABILITY AND WELDABILITY HEAT TREATING

Hardening range is between 1850°, and 1950°, F. Quench large sections in oil. Small sections can be quenched in air. Temper to required hardness.

Annealing

Full annealing range is between 1550°, and 1650°, F. Cool slowly in furnace. Low annealing range is between 1550°, and 1650°, F. Cool slowly in furnace.
