Comments about Chicago Electric Power Tools 1600 Watt Heavy Duty Dual Temperature Heat Gun 1000°,/1100°, :
I have used this gun for several long run heating projects. Warming metal before painting, both thin sheet and massive chunks. (heads and blocks) I have even used it to heat the shop area where I was working. I softened the sides of a few plastic bins so I could use my HF 3/8 letter punches to put my name on them. I have removed old and new paint from houses. (use a resparator!) The High heat output is great and the BTUs are adequate for heating large object quickly.
I used the fan only setting to inflate an air mattress and water bed mattress. (to get it centered in the frame) It's great for thawing pipes and deforsting car windows. I use mine quite a bit.
The lack of temp a low temp range is easily overcome with distance and movement. Using this heat gun requires the operator to be careful and have skill. Like any good tool you can over do it if you are not paying attention. If your heating plastics don't get close and keep the focal point moving. Slow and steady works best. Learning on scraps when you can.
Only minor things not to like about this heatgun, the lack of an auto cool down and the limited angle adjustment on the stand.
Auto cool down keeps you from shutting off the gun without letting the heating coils cool. I don't know why this is so bad for it but I have watched dozens of this type of gun killed by turning it off hot. Use, cool, turn off, they last years. Use, turn off hot, not so much.
There are only 0°,,45°, and 90°, holes for the screw in stand, however it is stable though, large and heavy with a non skid pad. It would not be difficult to fab up an adjustable bracket or a wall mount due to the way you attach the factory stand.
If you need low precision temperatures this is not your tool. Try a hair drier. I would recommend this unit for anything from light to heavt duty, but don't try to dry your hair.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
