The Georgia Aquarium is the top attraction in Atlanta and the largest aquarium in the world. Since its opening in 2005, the Aquarium has become renowned for over 120,000 fish and sea creatures representing over 500 species. Visitors flock to the Georgia Aquarium to see the only whale sharks living outside Asia and the dolphin shows which were added in early 2011. Birthday parties, field trips, and summer camps add to the fun.
As exciting as the Aquarium is, it can be an expensive outing: about $100 for a family of four including parking. Here are a few tips to help you save money at the Georgia Aquarium even without a coupon.
Plan ahead and visit during off hours.
Save $3 per person just for buying your ticket online before you go, and save $7 if you're an early bird and you plan to arrive in the first hour of the day. Those arriving after 6 p.m. (Monday - Saturday) save $17! That's a great idea for someone who's already visiting the aquarium and just wants to buzz by their favorite exhibits.
If you provide your name and email address, you'll be updated on special offers. Several times throughout the year the Aquarium offers discounted admission or free admission for kids, and the newsletter will keep you informed. Also, you'll be entered to win a family annual pass.
You only have nine days to use this pass from the first attraction you visit, but if you are planning a staycation for spring break or summer, consider a CityPass. $74 for adults and $39 for kids will get you into five of the following venues: Georgia Aquarium. World of Coca-Cola. Imagine It!. the CNN Studio. Fernbank Natural History Museum. the Atlanta History Center. Zoo Atlanta. and the High Museum. It's a huge savings over purchasing tickets separately.
The Georgia Aquarium is located at Pemberton Place, along with World of Coca-Cola. You can buy a pass for both venues and use them on the same day. You'll only save about $2.00 per person, but if you are planning to visit both on the same day, you'll save a little.
The aquarium also partners with other popular attractions to offer multi-visit discounts .
You'll save $1.00 by getting your parking pass in advance online.
You'll save $7.00 per ticket for adults and children if you go with a group of 25 or more. You'll have to make arrangements and pay ahead of time to get the group rate.
Find recurring special offers.
When you sign up for the newsletter or ",like", the Georgia Aquarium on Facebook or follow it on Twitter. you can find out about special offers that are available at varying times. Here are some of examples of past offers that come yearly.
- Mommy and Me: For $29.95, one adult can take up to four children under age six Monday-Friday including parking for only $29.95. This is a great deal for preschool parents!
- Summer Splash Pass: Get a 90-day pass for $40.
- Pirate/Princess Days: Kids dressed as pirates or princesses can get in free (with paying adult). Dates vary from year to year. These special days will also include themed games and activities for kids.
- Halloween: Trick-or-Treat at the Georgia A-SCARY-UM on Halloween, and get free admission for kids in costumes. This is usually a two-day event.
If you think you will visit more than twice per year, you should definitely get the annual membership, but you'll need to go at least three times to realize the savings. The cost for a family of four is $217.80 plus tax and does not include parking.
Volunteers receive a personal annual pass and discounts on family passes and tickets.
Eat before you go.
You are not permitted to bring food or drinks into the aquarium, so rather than eating in the cafe, save money by eating at home.
Active service members can purchase their own tickets at a 20% discount at the ticket window.
Take public transportation to save on parking and gas.
If you take MARTA, the closest stations are CNN/Georgia World Congress Center and Peachtree Center.

Location and Parking
Georgia Aquarium is located in downtown Atlanta, next to the World of Coke and close to Imagine It. Phillips Arena, the CNN Center. Centennial Olympic Park. and the Georgia Dome.
You can park in the Georgia Aquarium parking garage for $10. From there it's a short walk to the Aquarium under a covered walkway.
The Aquarium is open 365 days per year. Check the website for exceptions to regular hours. The aquarium stays open later in the summer.
Sunday - Friday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
You can buy tickets online or you can purchase tickets at the Georgia Aquarium. Prices do not include sales tax or special shows and tours - combo prices vary.
Adult - $38.95
Child (age 3-12) - $34.95
Senior (age 65 and up) - $32.95
Children 2 and under: free
A Georgia Aquarium membership makes sense if you would visit three times or more per year. The cost is per person and does not include sales tax.
