Silverado Sierra Vista Memory Care Community

Recommended Reviews

First to Review

Having lived at two other assisted living facilities prior, my mom had such great care at Silverado, and I had a basis to make a comparison.  The staff truly care for the residents as individuals.  The staff members work hard and you just cannot fake the caring that they demonstrate.  I almost always brought my two young boys to visit their Nana, and they were always welcome at Silverado.  There was never any stress about them bothering other people. we all were treated as members of the ",family.",  I visited quite frequently (3x or more a week) and often witnessed caregivers affirming residents with kind words.

Attentiveness:  The staff are attentive to needs and to changes, and are quick to provide updates and information.   If my mom needed extra care, if the nurse was going to call my mom',s primary care doctor, I knew before it happened what and why, and I got a follow-up about what happened and what the nurse was going to do (i.e. administer antibiotics, or get a mobile x-ray in that day, etc)   When I was able, I attended a monthly support group where residents', loved ones can ask questions and get updates.  Whether I asked a question in the group setting, or individually to a nurse or manager (i.e. to Vida) I always got a prompt rand complete follow up response.

Appropriate care:  Silverado has a social community, and a supportive care community.  My mom spent time in each community and I was always impressed how the caregivers were very well trained/experienced in dementia care.  The activities were suitable for the respective communities.   A big plus at Silverado is that the residents can have pets, that the staff can take care of.  My mom had always had dogs, but when the dementia journey began, she wanted another dog and yet sensed she couldn',t handle the care.  At Silverado, they took her out looking for the right dog for her, and found an amazing dog. The dog was so small that she could fit between the bars of the gate surrounding the community, so Silverado promptly installed a barrier around the base of the gate around the perimeter, so my mom',s dog was safe (there were no other dogs at the time requiring such a safety measure, it was for my mom',s dog. very kind)  The dog even went with her on outings, such as to the library (how did they do that?) to picnics, and to get ice cream.

Also, although dementia can cause some really challenging behaviors, I know that Silverado does not view medicating a resident as a first choice to address the behaviors.  They employ compassionate and patient responses to sundowning, confusion, agitation, etc.

Sadly, there',s no cure for Alzheimers yet, and it',s a terminal illness.  However, my mom',s last year of life, though difficult because of the progression of the disease, was lived out the best way she could have because of Silverado.   Silverado',s unique philosophy of care deserves some research by those considering placement of a loved one, and it',s clear that the philosophy is put into action.
