Medifast reviews

Consumer Complaints &, Reviews

Satisfaction Rating 3 /5

I've been reading tons of reviews on how terrible the Medifast offices are in various cities around the US. There's one in my town, but I never felt like I needed someone to weigh me once a week, or tell me how to follow the directions that are included in the box when you order this product online. I used the medifast 5 in 1 plan in mid 2013 through early 2014 and was able to lose approximately 30 pounds of body fat which was great. Previously my weight loss had stalled despite daily workouts, eating healthier meals and eating at a caloric deficit. I had some coworkers who had used the plan to lose weight quickly, one of which chose the plan so he could get trim for his wedding and they didn't have many complaints except that some of the meals weren't so tasty.

The first time I ordered, I chose the most popular kit because I had no idea which items were worth eating and which weren't. I figured that the popular kit was bound to have SOMETHING in it that I could stomach. Luckily it did. But let me be clear: you're not paying for gourmet food with gourmet taste. It's diet food. I've never tasted a diet food product that I actually enjoyed, and I didn't expect that with Medifast either. The best you can get is something you can tolerate and thank goodness that I was able to cook my own dinners every night because otherwise, I couldn't have stuck with the plan. That being said, when it came time for me to stop the plan (let's face it, the food's EXPENSIVE and money doesn't grow on trees), I didn't make the mistake of simply stopping altogether.

I went from 5-and-1 to 4-and-2, then to just using the snack bars in between breakfast and lunch, then to just keeping the cookies and brownies on hand for when I wanted a sweet after dinner, but didn't want 100s of calories worth. In the 9 months since stopping the diet, I've only gained back about 8 pounds of weight -- and that because I was laid up for several months after a surgery and couldn't keep up my workout routine. You have to continue working out and continue counting calories if you want the weight to stay off, that's just a fact of life and it's unfortunate for us foodies.

As for customer service. it's iffy. I had my wallet stolen around Christmas time and needed to update my card info with them online. For some unknown reason, their system wouldn't let me update payment info, cancel the pending order they kept trying to place, or add a new card and order the same stuff. I eventually just cancelled the membership altogether. Now, December 2014, I need to lose the remainder of the weight I was trying to lose when I started the plan in 2013 (it seems I'm really good at maintaining weight, but not losing it). I had to sign up with my husband's name and info because of that glitch with the card I mentioned before. We'll see how it goes this time around, but in a nutshell -- don't pay for the "memberships" you get at local offices. Order online, join the "Be Slim" club, and get free shipping on your orders.
