When you start looking through the wedding invitations. you’,ll soon be amazed by the sheer volume of designs you have to pick from, I’,m sure. I know I was anyway. There are pages and pages of them under each style: Embellished, Modern, Traditional, Floral Accents, All in One Invitations, Destination and Seasonal, Eco-Friendly, and Disney. Really, I can’,t imagine that you couldn’,t find the perfect invitation to your special day with all of these choices. Naturally, there is some overlap in the invitations listed under the various styles but no matter, there are still tons to choose from. Getting worn out looking through them might be your only problem in finding the perfect design.

For each design you see the retail price and the Costco price for orders of 100. The Costco discount depends on the specific design but seems to be 25% or 30%. And that can make a big difference when you’,re talking about retail prices that could be a few hundred dollars. While some of the invitation designs are really quite pricey, there seem to be different price points to help those brides that are on a tight budget. There seem to be several designs under each style for under $100.00 for 100 invitations. The exceptions are the fancy embellished styles and the eco-friendly styles that start at just over $160.00 for 100 invitations. The all in one styles also are a little more expensive, starting at $168.00, but you’,re getting everything in one folded card, including a perforated response card that is a part of the invitation. When you find a design that you like you can click on the image or name to get more information. This includes a description of the design, as well as paper weight, printing technique, manufacturer, and the dimensions. They are also thoughtful enough to tell you if you will need additional postage to mail your invitations. You will also be able to see a list of accessories such as printed return addresses on the envelopes, response cards, reception cards, and thank you notes, all of which have a coordinating design to the invitation. The other key piece of information is how long it will take to get your invitations. Most of the ones that I looked at all seemed to say it would take nine business days to print the custom invitations and then five additional business days for the invitations to actually reach your doorstep via ground shipping, they also show you what that means with an actual estimated date.

Once you’,ve made a decision on what design you like best, the next step is to personalize the invitation. You can change the text, the font, and the color of the font, and then see a preview of what the invitation will look like with your changes. The text changes are probably fairly obvious: names for the bride and groom, the text that lists parents, time and location of the wedding, and then any other little things such as about the reception or various things that go along with the specific designs. After you get all of the customizations just right, and have checked it out in the minuscule preview (really the biggest downfall of the website, more on that later), you click Add to Cart and get to choose the envelope details: have them print the return address on the envelope or not, you can also buy additional envelopes in case there is a bit of a mishap with addressing. If you choose to have them print the return address, you also get to see how that will look on the back of the envelope before proceeding to the matching accessories selection that include: response sets, reception cards, and thank you notes, all of which are personalized with your information. The response set includes an addressed envelope and a response card. The reception card is simply a card that you include with your invitations to let everyone know the details of your reception, such as location and style of dress, parking information, and things like that. The thank you notes come with an envelope so you can also get a return address printed on those as well. The last step is to review all of the stuff in your shopping cart. You can decide to get rid of something or change the font, text color, or any of the custom text that you entered. You also have the option of changing the shipping method from ground to 3rd or 2nd day air, or even next day air, for an added price of course. After you make any adjustments, you can also see the grand total and just how much you saved on your total order by going through Costco.com.

I’,ve done this (not with this software though) for my sister and a couple of friends, and it can be fun to make your own invitations, especially if you are design inclined and have fun creative ideas that you want to use. I know that one my sisters invitations I probably saved her around $400.00 by designing and creating them for her, so you can save a lot of money by doing them yourself. Of course, it took me quite a while to assemble them all (due to my bright idea of putting a ribbon and bow to hold it all together). If you go this route, I just want to point out that sometimes Costco has great craft papers and ribbon for sale in the warehouses that you can make excellent use of when styling the perfect invitations.
