Auriculotherapy

Auriculotherapy is a health care procedure in which stimulation of the auricle of the external ear is utilized to alleviate health conditions in other parts of the body. While originally based upon the ancient Chinese practices of acupuncture, the somatotopic correspondence of specific parts of the body to specific parts of the ear was first developed in France. It is this integrated system of Chinese and Western practices of auricular acupuncture which is presented.

  • Review: Nokian Hakkapeliitta R

    Call in the Cavalry

Back in the 17th century, during the Thirty Years War in Central Europe, the tiny nation of Finland fielded a group of light cavalry called the Hakkapeliitta. Fighting for the King of Sweden, they were justly feared for their spectacular horsemanship, their utter ferocity and the blood-chilling battle cry, “Hakka Paale!” (“Hack them all down!”) from which they took their name.

Nokian's Hakkapeliitta snow tires? Yeah, pretty much like that.

    Pros

    • Uncompromising winter grip.
    • Excellent dry-road performance.
    • Slushplaning technology.
    • Extremely low rolling resistance.

    Technology

Nokian pioneered many of the technological advances that now show up in most of today's snow tires, such as the zigzag siping patterns cut entirely through the tread blocks, which were originally patented as the “Hakka Sipe.” Consequently, Nokian tires always pack a pretty big big technological punch, and the Hakkapeliitta R is no exception. One can begin with the unique canola oil/silica-based rubber compound which Nokian claims provides superior grip at low temperatures without using ecologically unsound volatile oils. Continue with the aggressive tread block design and new “Brake Booster” siping patterns designed to enhance braking power on slippery surfaces. In addition, the Hakka R sports a new siping style called “Pump Sipes” which places small voids beneath the sipes which draw in water as the tread block rolls down to keep it away from the contact patch, expelling it again when the tread block rolls upwards.

Nokian is also a longtime leader at building tires with extremely low rolling resistance, such that independent testers have confirmed that the Hakka R has as much as a third less rolling resistance than many comparable tires. Low rolling resistance saves both fuel and treadwear, and over an expected tread life of 30,000+ miles, that kind of fuel savings can really add up.

    Handling

Like their all-season cousin, the WR G2, Nokian Hakkapeliittas provide superlative, confidence-inspiring grip on snow and ice that make even notoriously winter-incapable cars like BMW coupes feel like four-wheel drive SUV's. Along with near-perfect straight-line grip, Nokian's engineers put a lot of thought and effort into lateral grip, something that other major tire makers are just starting to pay more attention to. Hakkas have by far the best lateral grip I have ever experienced, making it nearly impossible to fishtail the car even when deliberately trying to do so. Even in a full skid, slight reductions in throttle will usually allow the tires to recover by themselves with remarkably little driver input. Steering even in deep snow is stable and precise, as the aggressive tread cuts through ruts and other irregularities without a hint of tramlining or kickout.

Hakkas are just as amazing in wet or slushy conditions. Braking grip on wet pavement is excellent, and hydroplaning is nearly nonexistent. Nokian is also the only snow tire maker in the world that puts serious full-time effort into preventing slushplaning, a condition that can be a real problem here in New England. On cold dry pavement, Hakkas are certainly not as good as Dunlop Graspics, but as good or better than any other dedicated snow tire I've driven. The steering feel is quite responsive with only a hint of sidewall flex and a low hum of road noise.

    The Bottom Line

Nokians do tend to be somewhat more expensive than other tires. However, the low rolling resistance and accompanying fuel savings does compensate for at least part of that. For me, peace of mind easily compensates for the rest.

One winter some years ago, my wife had to drive from northern Massachusetts back down to Boston the day after Christmas in the middle of a tremendous nor'easter that was busy dumping more than two feet of snow on us. “Don't worry,” she said to me, “I've got the Hakkas on the car.” Less than an hour later she came back. “You ran into something even the Hakkas couldn't handle?” I asked, quite surprised. “No,” she said “I was completely under control. It's just that nobody else on the road was. When I saw a Land Rover that couldn't track straight because all four tires were skating, I decided to turn back.”

    Yeah, pretty much like that.

    Get your free Yoplait coupons

    Free Yoplait coupon

Yoplait coupons have changed the way people look at coupons today. This is due to the introduction of small coupons for commodities such as yoghurt, delights and lights. All these coupons are known to come with marvelous savings that can blow a customer’s mind away. Is there any freeYoplait coupon. This question will be answered in detail as the article unfolds. A good way to answer this question is to consider each and every Yoplait coupon, the offers that are associated with it and the terms and conditions that are attached as well.

Is it possible for a coupon or a set of coupons to be free? Yes, it is possible. Some coupons may be sponsored so that customers may not have to spend anything at all. However, such coupons are for commodities that may not be bought if the coupons are not introduced. Companies usually use such coupons to get rid of commodities that have not been bought. The use of coupons is just to increase order as the commodities are being given out. Under normal circumstances, a coupon is not supposed to be free. After all, the ultimate goal of the coupon is to improve the sales and increase profit margins. Coupons are aimed at enticing people to buy more of a given commodity at a reduced price. Companies usually earn a lot from such business ventures because they earn more money within a very short period of time.

    The free coupon availabitlty

If you fully understand the main reason why coupons are introduced, then you would obviously not look forward to coming across a free Yoplait coupon. You will be amazed to learn that there is none. This is because the coupons are meant to be bought at lower prices and then customers can use them to purchase the commodity that is associated with the coupon at a reduced price.

You can get Yoplait coupons from any website including the official website for Yoplait. The free Yoplait coupon will not be found. What you will come across are coupons that can enable you to purchase Yoplait products at reduced prices. An example of the coupons that you can purchase at much reduced prices is the yoghurt coupon for Greek yoghurt. This coupon can enable you to purchase Greek yoghurt at just $0.75 for every two cups. This is an offer that you cannot obviously deny if you really love the highly nutritious Yoplait Greek yoghurt.

Although there is literally no free Yoplait coupon, there are plenty of free offers that come with coupons. For example, you are at liberty to go and get a print out of the coupons from Yoplait’s official website or any other legitimate website for free. Once you have the print out of the coupon, you will be entitled to remarkable reduced prices for every purchase of the commodity that is on the coupon. In addition to free coupon print outs, you can also get free updates on upcoming coupons, any extensions of deadlines or any alterations to the pre-existing coupon.

    Pearlescent paint

As we all know, Custom Painting on any surface can seem like a challenge whether one is a seasoned professional or a novice. Creating pearl paint is as easy as doing any other type of paint, with the exception of adding a few steps to the process. When we describe Ghost Pearls on our site, we are speaking of the type of pearlescent pigments that can be used to create ghost flames, entire irridescent pearl paint jobs, or other ghost effects. Our ghost pearls are what custom painters use to create those beautiful pearlescent effects that people see on many custom paint and even factory paint jobs. Newer cars and motorcycles can be seen with ghost pearl effects done in the factory, such as the Lamborghini orange paint with the beautiful gold pearl that we see at the auto shows, or simpler pearlescent white paints that we see on new Cadillacs or Infiniti cars, which can be acheived with a simple silver ghost pearl or gold ghost pearl applied over a white base coat. Turning a two-stage paint job into a three-stage paint job is the basic step in creating a quality pearl paint .

With this thought in mind, anyone can make an ordinary paint job into a pearl paint job. Instead of doing a base-coat clear-coat paint job, we add the pearl paint into the middle of the mix. Base-coat, ghost pearl paint. clear-coat. We always recommend that people make their own mixes and spray a test panel before doing the entire project, and it is always wise to use a base clear, or a binder to mix the pearls with before adding the final clears. The final clear step is only recommended for custom paint, and not for powder coating. gel coating, or faux finish. If you are looking to do a project using these beautiful ghost pearls, we have a few suggestions on which colors look good over which base coats.

White base coat: Use any of the ghost pearls, but keep in mind that the red ghost pearl will give you a irridescent pink look in the sun. Blue, violet, orange, gold and silver are the most popular colors for white base coats.

Black base coat: You also may use any of the ghost pearls. but keep in mind that using too much will make the project take on the color of the pearl and overwhelm the black. To get a cool midnight color change effect, keep the ratio of pearl down to about a teaspoon per quart in the clear base or binder. In powder coating. keep the ratio down to a tablespoon per pound and add onto that as needed.

Red, Burgandy, or Orange base coat: We highly recommend any of our Gold ghost pearls, including the shimmer gold or the satin gold. Also, Blue pearl red pearl, and violet pearls can make for great effects over the darker shades of red.

Blue base coats: For very light blues (like cornflower blue), we have seen excellent results using gold ghost pearl, but for a cool color shift on any shades of blue, a violet ghost pearl will give you a cool purple color shift in the sun. Silver ghost pearl paint can also give a nice subtle effect to the darker blues. Green can give an awsome pearl effect over most blue bases as well.

Yellow base coat: We highly recommend that you try using green ghost pearl for the lemony yellows, and gold ghost pearl for the darker racing yellows.

Green base coat: Gold ghost pearl looks great on green base coats. We have also seen good results with orange and red ghost pearls.

Pink base coat: Believe it or not, you will find that silver ghost pearl looks awesome over pink, as does the red ghost pearl.

Purple base coat: Try our Red Ghost Pearl, Green Ghost Pearl, or Silver Ghost pearl.

Is Pepsi Clear the return of Crystal Pepsi?

Is Pepsi Clear the return of Crystal Pepsi?

Hello there! Keep up with our beverage reviews by following BevReview on Facebook and Twitter

Update 12/31/2010: It would appear that Pepsi has abandoned their trademark claims on "Pepsi Clear" and "Diet Pepsi Clear", per the US Patent and Trademark Office. That would seem to put the nail in the coffin for the return of this beverage.

Back in July. we were doing some trademark searches to see what might be found in the world of new beverages (much the same way we discovered Diet Mountain Dew Ultra Violet ).

Of interest were these two filings from PepsiCo:

    Pepsi Clear (77553297 )

    Filing Date: August 22, 2008

Published for Opposition: December 30, 2008

    Filing Date: August 22, 2008

Published for Opposition: December 30, 2008

Date of Status: March 24, 2009

So what's the big deal, this is the old Crystal Pepsi from 1992-3, right? Actually, nope! What's different with the above trademark filings is that they are currently live in the USPTO database. The old Crystal Pepsi trademarks (74321835. 74321837 ) for "Clear Cola Crystal Pepsi" have been abandoned and are dead.

    (Source: Wikipedia)

So what does this mean? Is this the return of Crystal Pepsi? Who knows. We're just presenting the information here…, though the trademark filings and tweets from our friends at Salute To Soda might hint that direction (Emphasis ours):

Regarding the name Pepsi Clear, it's not entirely new. For a short time in 2005 or so, a product named Pepsi Clear was marketed in Mexico as a transparent cola, but that appears to no longer be available. However, it is a product that has the same name as what is currently showing up in the trademark searches.

Which leaves us not a lot to go on, so we might as well just remember the Crystal Pepsi era, whether or not it returns again. For those who don't remember, here's an excerpt from Wikipedia :

Crystal Pepsi was a soda made by PepsiCo from 1992 to 1993. It was marketed as a caffeine-free "clear alternative" to normal colas, equating clearness with purity and health. Its marketing tagline was "You've never seen a taste like this". However, the taste was not significantly different from other colas, unlike other colorless soft drinks, which usually have a lemon-lime flavor, Crystal Pepsi tasted much like the original Pepsi.

In 1992, the product came to test markets in Denver, Colorado, Sacramento, California, Dallas, Texas, and Providence, Rhode Island and had a positive response. Pleased with the results, PepsiCo launched the cola on April 13, 1992, and began to sell it nationwide in 1993. A series of television advertisements featuring Van Halen's hit song "Right Now" premiered on national television on January 31, 1993, during Super Bowl XXVII. In its first year, Crystal Pepsi captured a full percentage point of U.S. soft drink sales, approximately $474 million. Coca-Cola followed suit by launching Tab Clear on December 14, 1992.

Initial sales were good but quickly fell. Pepsi pulled the drink off the market and returned several months later with a reformulated citrus drink titled "Crystal From Pepsi", but this was short-lived as well.

    Crystal Pepsi Memories

Do you remember Crystal Pepsi? What are your memories of that uniquely clear drink? Post them in the comments and share them with others! Here's one to start things off from BevReview reader BJ Wanlund:

When I had that first Crystal Pepsi, it was unlike any other drink I have ever had before or since. I took one sip, and almost thought I was in heaven. This incredible clear cola was unlike any soda I'd ever tasted, either before or since that time.
